Are you being pulled out your window?

Ah, nothing like a frosty drink in the summertime!

It's a beautiful scene, isn't it? Is the scenery out your window more interesting then your current work in process (wip)? Or is it just the glorious weather pulling your mind outdoors?

In either case, I know it's hard to concentrate in the summer months, with the children home, vacations, the beach calling your name. I'd love to hear how you discipline yourself and achieve your word count.

Me, I tell myself daily that I can go out and play once I achieve my daily word count. For me, the daily word count is one thousand words or more. I know some whose word count is only five hundred words daily and that's also great, as long as you are putting words to the paper.

Are you putting words to the paper? Share your goal and your methods below.

  1. Hi, Marian. It isn't the scenery that draws me away. It's just plain ol' me. I work, then get antsy and have to do something else for a while (like blog with you!) Then, I go back. Sometimes, I sit with my adora-poos and scratch their heads and think a bit. It always helps in the end.

  2. Thinking, daydreaming, it's all part of writing. That's why I love this career. :)

  3. Hi Marian. I love the scenery outside. I feed the birds and squirrels and they can hypnotize for ... a long time. Which is another way of saying, I'm always off task. I've found that the right music helps. Nothing with word or I end up singing rather than writing.

  4. Me too. I get to see foxes, deer and many varieties of birds. So cool. Sounds like you know yourself Kathye. Happy writing.

  5. I'm inside all day in this gorgeous weather at the day job, so I don't get as much writing time as I'd like anyway. At least it's dark at night when I finally get to sit down and write! The weekends are hard for me. I get up early and write for a few hours, then get outside and enjoy the day for a while. Then back to the computer in the evening.

  6. Since I work in my windowless office in the lower level of our house, I am not tempted to break out into the sun. When I break for lunch I might treat myself to eating out on the deck but that is it until I accomplish my daily goal.

    1. You're well disciplined, Christy. Me the birds flying by distract me but only for a minute then I'm right back into my wip. Thanks for stopping by.

  7. I am getting words on paper, and mostly b/c I am taking that steamy workshop. It is great, I am making changes and adding to the WIP. I may go back to Margie Lawson. She was full of information and ideas. Thanks for reminding me.

    1. Gail, I find workshops keep me motivated. I love them not only for what I learn but the boost in energy I get from them. Glad to see you're getting it down on the paper.
