Gothic Gate's author R. M. Simone
What inspired your latest book?
One of my
readers suggested she would enjoy reader a Goth Romance. I now call her my Muse’ lovingly I sat down to write a few ideas inspired by
this and Gothic Gates came to mind. I saw large Gothic Gates and a
mansion. Then the main male character and
his name, Dante’.
Gothic Gates
was ‘born’ and now it is up to seven books.
Three in the group are short stories.
What is your typical day like?
Well I am
awake before sunrise. I am a vivid
dreamer. Often my dreams are like films or they are about my books I am working
on with additional plot shifts, new characters, or evolution of the
characters. I record that information
immediately and head to a favorite watering hole a Starbuck’s I like. I spend about two hours recording into my
lap top the book or story information. Since
like most authors I am always working on something or a project.
My other
work begins around 8 a m with counseling on line for my clients and intuitive
readings along with guidance for their paths.
I do long distance energy work, remote viewing, and a lot of healing aid
to their souls.
I break around noon and head to exercise walk,
then meditate at a group of huge trees I love in my car and quiet my mind. This is a two hour period mid day. Sort of leaving one part of my day and work
and then preparing for writing again. I
do my edit work; re read ideas, play with the characters, collect artwork that
inspires me for my books and work on my Book Covers.
I also
design Book covers for other authors and banners for their pages. This diversion is actually aligned with my
writing flows and my love of art. I
also research during the afternoon. All
my books are set in real locations with real art, real architectural places and
historical time frames even though I write fiction.
I also set
the stories in grid ley lines that hold a frequency or energy that those that
are drawn to my books comment that they experience or ‘feel’. This is part of the feng shui work I do on
homes, grids, long distance locations or in person. Energy dowsing is something else I do and I
read grid history and past time frames too.
Evening is
dinner at a favorite soup and salad place where I might spend four to seven
hours in a large booth with WIFI on and working on my manuscripts, music on and
in the flow.
How much time do you spend promoting
your books? What works best for you?
About an
hour a day and I work with a PR gal too. I would sincerely advise all writers to
merely do that ‘write on’. Join clubs
for your genre and meet other authors. I
am in fan fiction and love meeting like minded folks into Twilight. I also find some of the best unpublished
authors there too. Just writing for the
sake of writing.
I find
though that once you decide to publish this takes on an entirely new stage. Moving from the ‘artist’ into the promotion,
the networking and the challenges of it all.
I like all of it. It allows me
to be assertive and go for what my vision is.
You do need to be thick skinned when you begin to put the work out there
and take it all in stride. Some mentions
are helpful some are not. Trust only the
input from others that your feel is respectful and helpful to your project. The rest take with a grain of salt.
I find the
best way on this is to get to know YOUR FANS those that are reading and buying
your books. Create a network of those
that support your efforts and are true to your books, characters and fall in
love with what you are writing. This
will be the Wind in your Sails.
Tell us about your hero. Give us one of his strengths and one of his
weaknesses.
Dante’. Well his name says it all. I wrote down his name when I began Gothic
Gates and what followed was Byron, Shelley. Three names all very significant in some
way to this character.
Dante is a
master mind chess player. He is a
strategist. He is also an immortal by
way of Alchemy. He is complex, very
deeply privately spiritual; he is also highly educated in the occult arts and
monastic solitude. He uses all of these
skills, gifts and intelligence to work within the shadows of his Board Meeting
group and his Goth Business Enterprise.
He helps to balance good and evil in regards to global power elite.
He is highly
romantic and has waited for this special love of his to surface in his
life. Since she has he must navigate
the fact she is not an immortal nor does she believe necessarily in past lives.
He is
extremely sensitive to her. I personally
marvel in writing the character the exchanges of this man as an archetype to
this woman he loves and waited for.
He is very
much ‘in control’ of his life and business and is a stabilizing force for her
own awakening into her own heart and her
soul. Who he is and what Goth is about
is part of how this relationship love unfolds.
He is also
very altruistic in his charities and global work to aid good causes.
Power rolls
off Dante’. He is English and French
and extremely wealthy.
Tell us about your heroine. Give us one of her strengths and one of her
weaknesses.
Samantha Devon Huntington is 27 years old, fiercely
independent woman, never been fully in love before and is a Midwest girl that
moved with her family to Northern California.
She graduated Stanford with a MBA.
She works as a consultant in high tech.
She is visiting her best friend in Paris, France that is her school mate
and wing girl in life. She is very much
salt of the earth, her family has a financial success and she works with her
own solid business and life ethics that are very middle of the life road. She is compassionate and caring of those less
fortunate. She is direct, honest, fire
personality and very grounded.
Dante’s mystery throws her off her usual balance, his power
that rolls off him and his extremely wealthy life style in Goth
Enterprises.
She is learning to trust him, open her own heart for love to
come in and stay true to who she is and how she is. She is not easy and he knows that and likes
that. He is a master mind though and
she is very smart too. They are
extremely well matched on sexual intimacy.
This is opening her up to her own body, her emotional rawness too and
this power. Most of all her strength is
her outspoken honesty.
She must learn to trust what she is feeling, open her eyes to
the past she touches into when she is with Dante’, and come into her true
self. She is a strong female and will go
through an awakening with this rare love relationship. He is her Twin soul mate love. A divine match this is in so many ways she is
yet to discover.
What genres are you drawn to as a
reader?
Fiction, Romance, Enchantment, Goth,
Historical Romance, Myths, Fantasy, and Vampire/Immortal and Dimensional
realities complicated sub plots, classical books, Regency Romance Good
Supernatural books and of course Fairy Tales.
I also enjoy Fan Fiction.
GOTHIC GATES
Chapter 1
Gothic Mansion Doors
It seemed a frightening
eternity that I just stood there facing the huge carved mansion door. I considered just leaving the parcel there
dashing back down the drive way to the safety of my car parked outside the
Gothic Gates. Not only was this place
like something out of a New Orleans horror story but it could be in England or
any other part of the world that had a misty bog creeping up around the
grounds. I did not dare to look over my
shoulder and was about to bolt when I heard footfalls coming to the front
door. I squared my shoulders with
holding the business card in hand with the package. I stood there facing the door to see who ever
I was going to pass this off to.
The door opened with a blast
of this parties music thundering into my ear drums circling my mind deadening
out my own thoughts. Something else
enveloped me as I felt dizzy with it all.
There stood a tall man with a masquerade painted mask on his face. I wondered for a second too long before
speaking. Chills ran up my spine as I
cleared my throat.
“Excuse me, I have a delivery
for ‘Dante’
Total silence.
“Excuse me, can you just sign
for this? Do you speak English?”
I stood there stumbling
holding the package wondering how to get this done. The house staff person spoke, maybe he
was a guest?
“Yes, I speak the Queen’s
English. Well, you will need to come in
and take this to him. Do you have some identification or business card with
you?”
He had an English accent with
perfect diction as I fumbled the card my hand was shaking. It is frightening to stand there in front of
someone wearing a mask. You never know
what is going on with who the person is or hiding their face. He took my courier card handing it back to me
promptly. “You will need to give this to
him in person yourself. That is how this
normally works. Let me show you to the
office.”
I was relieved to have that
done with and followed in the man wearing the mask. The party was in full swing with what I could see in the main room all wearing
elegant Gothic clothing and it showed like designer fashions. Masks were on all the guest I could see. He never gave me his name but directed me to
a room near the foyer that I assumed was the office where the host of the event
would be found. I looked inside as he
waived me to enter.
“Excuse me, where is Dante’?
“What is your name, the card
merely named the Courier Services? You
do have a name?”
“Ah, yes, of course,
Sam.” I could barely get my name out and
worse of all I gave him my shortened name.
I was not thinking clearly.
“Sam, you don’t look like a
Sam? I assume Samantha and your last
name is?”
“Yes of course, it is
Samantha Devon Huntington.” There I got
my name out. I looked around the office
realizing it had costumes along with ornate masquerade masks. I wondered were the office desk was.
“You sound like you may have
‘breeding’ in you. So you do have a
formal first name along with a middle name and family name. Do I know your family?”
“Why would you know my
family, I don’t even know who you are? I
am doing my friend a favor by dropping off the music tracks for this party that
were sent from the London Music Studio, Akashic-Records. Did I make a mistake, I can leave and see if
this was to go elsewhere?” Somehow my
fire kicked in as his attitude was beginning to irritate me. The rich and these parties that are Gothic in
nature were the rage all over England now and Europe. The house fit perfectly for this kind of
theme evening. I wondered to myself how
much this mansion rented out for this night’s event.
“Well, pick out something to
wear, plenty to choose from plus a mask.
All the guests hide their identity.
I will show you where he is then.”
He left the room. I was standing there again in shock. I was not getting into a costume to just
deliver this package. Who did he think
he was? The door opened and a woman
walked in about to look for something.
“Hello dearie, what is the
problem, can I help you find something, you seem lost?”
I took in a deep breath
feeling foolish standing there holding the package of music. “Well I am a courier delivery and was just
let in and he told me to pick out a costume to deliver the package to the
host. Really this is not what I had in
mind and it was to just deliver this.’ I
began rambling and felt out of place.
“It’s ok, the host has his
ways. Look let me help you dearie. Now what do you have on under your
clothes? Any sexy lingerie’?” She began rummaging through things grabbing
this and that.
I began to unbutton my blouse
realizing I was on some kind of ride to just get through this. Get the job done. Under my blouse I forgot I had on a black
long waisted strapless bra. She saw it
and smiled. I was really just numb with
this entire event.
“Good, that will work
perfectly. We are all wearing black, it
is so Goth you know.” Next thing I knew
she asked me to take off my Levi’s kicking off my shoes she searched for a tight
fitting slinky skirt. Slit up one long
side of it reminding me to slide off my panties.
“What do you mean take off my
panties? I just came to deliver this
package.”

The Great Fruitcake Bake-off
Happy Launch Day!!!
Today, I celebrate the launch of my
funny holiday romantic comedy:
The Great Fruitcake Bake-off
I wrote this one for all of you
fruitcake naysayers. I love fruitcake, especially when dipped in chocolate.
Here's a blurb:
To defend her five wins, Samantha Greene, has to find a new entry
for The Great Fruitcake Bake-off and teams up with new neighbor, Dixon Roberts,
only what they discover is baking a award-winning entry can be complicated, bad
guys are plotting to take the crown, and ultimately, first prize isn't just
about a ribbon.
Are you teased? Here's more—the excerpt!
"I am not entering this
year." I pinned an unbreakable stare on Bethany, my long-time friend. We
were piddling over coffee in her cubical like we always did before getting to
the nuts and bolts of company business. "Period."
"Why not, Samantha? You should be
proud to be the five-time winner of the Great Fruitcake Bake-off. You're a
legend."
"Is
being a legend in the fruitcake world a good thing? It's exhausting. Finding
the perfect recipe, then bake and exhibit it. Besides, shouldn't somebody else
win?"
Bethany's fists went to her hips.
"Sam, we're talking fruitcake. It's not groundbreaking like, like the
Declaration of Independence or...the Pyramids."
"I'm
shocked to hear you say that. Fruitcake is the
cake of all time. It dates to--"
She bobbed her head. "To the
sixteenth century."
I
raised my finger. "It gets a bad--"
"Rap." She sighed a soul
searching blow of breath. "You always say that. You also always say you
love participating; yet, you're not defending your title this year."
"I've
used up all of Grammie's recipes."
"You could start over with the
first confection you entered five years ago, couldn't you?"
"It
seems like cheating...in a weird way. And I don't cheat."
"You are a shining example of
excellent values." She drummed her fingers from the littlest to the index
and considered. "I've got it! Why not check online and find a
recipe?"
"They
don't call you brainchild for nothing." I rubbed a finger along the divot
below my lower lip. A tiny speck of excitement blossomed within me. "I'll
need a brand new fruitcake. I wouldn't want to be like Crazy Wanda who enters
the same freakin' lump of dough every freakin' year."
"It never hurts to expand your
repertoire, even if it's by collecting fruitcake recipes."

Be My Alien
Please welcome author Julie Lynn Hayes today.
Genre: M/M erotica
Warning: Today's post is for those over the age of 18 years old.
Thanks so much for having us here today! Oh wait,
who are we, I can hear some of you ask? Let me back up a mo and start again.
I’m Julie Lynn Hayes, she’s M.A. Church, heretofore
to be known as Michelle. Just call me Julie. We’re here today to talk about our
first joint project, Be My Alien,
which will be released by Dreamspinner May 8th.
Let’s start at the beginning. I totally blame
Michelle for hooking me on aliens.
Michelle: *snort* I corrupted her, or so she says.
Julie: *laughs* That’s my story, and I’m sticking to
it. It wasn’t until I read your most excellent book, Nighttime Wishes, that I
first encountered your fixation on beings from other worlds, and… wait, hold on
a second. What are you two doing here?
Reed: Don’t blame me, I was just following Taz. He
said we needed to come here, and I guess he’s right. Look, you’re talking about
us. That’s a bit cheeky, don’t you think?
Julie: What? Cheeky? Hey, Reed, I was going to say
nice things, how does that make us cheeky? Michelle, a little help here?
Michelle: Oh no, don’t drag me into this. Besides, I
think you’re doing just fine on your own, Julie.
Julie: Gee, thanks. *sneaks a peek at these two
lovely men* Wow, what gorgeous guys we’ve created, I have to admit.
Taz: Reed, I appreciate these two humans and their
efforts to talk about us, but I feel that we can handle this ourselves, don’t
you?
Reed: Indeed I do. So why don’t you two ladies find
something else to do? Maybe go to a strip club or something?
Julie: *look at Michelle, and she shrugs *
Michelle: Well, if they screw this up, it’s on them.
I say we go look at pretty men. You’re driving, though.
Julie: *walks out door mumbling under her breath* Don’t
I always?
Michelle: *pokes Julie in the back* But you like
driving. Am I going to have to listen to this all the way to Atlanta???
Purses are grabbed and a door slams shuts.
Reed: *whispers*
Good Lord, are they gone?
Taz: *looks around the corner* Yes, thank the stars.
I swear, those two… So… *Taz rubs his hands together, a gleam in his eye* Looks
like we got free rein now. You ready to start?”
Reed: Yes, more than ready. They’ve gone about
things the wrong way. Did you even hear mention of the title?
Taz: No, not a word.
Reed: *shakes his head* Women!
Taz: *cocks his head and regards Reed* My mother is
a woman, Reed.
Reed: *snorts* I know, I met her, remember? So’s
mine, by the way, and thanks for asking…
Taz: But I didn’t ask?
Reed: *sighs* It’s just an expression. *mumbles
under his breath* Damn, need to get that book. Bad. Hey, babe, where do you
think we should start?
Taz: How about like this? *he climbs onto Reed’s lap
and lays his head on Reed’s shoulder, purring*
Reed: Oh damn, seriously? *takes a deep breath* I
thought we’re here to talk? You know, about us?
Taz: *purrs louder* Go ahead and talk. I can hear
you. *begins to rock in Reed’s lap*
Reed: Oh jeez Louise, that’s distracting… *clears
throat* Um, okay… we met… we met… oh yeah, it was almost Valentine’s Day. I was
working late ‘cause I didn’t have anything better to do. You know how it is
when you’re single and it’s been a while… that day means less than nothing.
Taz: It didn’t mean anything to me either.
Reed: Well, to be fair, you never heard of it ‘til
you got here.
Taz: Oh yeah, I guess that’s true. *squirms a bit on Reed’s lap* I’m just lucky
I was in the right place at the right time.
Reed: I think I’m the lucky one, babe. That’s what
they call karma.
Taz: Karma? What has this to do with driving?
Reed: *groans* Later, I’ll explain later. So anyway,
I had to meet a customer at the Empire State Building after work, and that’s
where I met Taz. He knocked me off my feet, literally.
Taz: What can I say, you caught my attention? My
night hadn’t been going very well. I had just been dumped, then I saw you. I
really didn’t mean to knock you down, you know.
Reed: Oh, I wasn’t complaining. I ended up on the
floor with an arm full of sexy male. *blush* Well, at the time I thought I had
an arm full of sexy male. Little did I know just what I was holding.
Taz: *giggle* You should’ve seen the look on your
face the first time my stripes showed up! I mean, you freaked out, but still,
for a second there… I don’t have the words!
Reed: *shakes head* It was probably the same kind of
shocked look I had when that tail of yours put in an appearance.
Taz: *rubs cheek against Reed’s jaw* That reminds
me, when are you going to let me—
Reed: Whoa now. Let’s not go there, babe. You give
that away, Julie and Michelle will both want to skin you. It’ll be a race to
see which one of them gets you.
Taz: Silly women. Neither one of them gets me. I’m
all yours… *licks his way up Reed’s neck*
Reed: All mine, you’re right. Um, um…. Oh yeah, the
title. Be My Alien. Pretty cute, don’t you think?
Taz: Mmhmmm, you’re very cute.
Reed: Not me, the title *blushes*
Taz: Oh, that’s not bad. Those two earth women seem
to be able to put words together rather nicely, don’t they?
Reed: Better than me at times. Oh babe, you gotta
quit that, or I might…
Taz: I’m wearing those special—
Reed: Oh lord, from the shop? *groans* Oh yes, my
shop. I have my own business, I should mention that. A Touch of Class. Here in
New York. I mean there… I mean… Taz, please be careful, you’re right over my—
Taz: I know, Reed…
I know… *silences him with a kiss*
Taz: Oh yes. We told
them how we met. Did we tell them about ourselves though?
Reed: What do you mean?
Taz: Well, I’m from the
planet Trygos, the most important planet in the Trygos galaxy, and only one of
two planets capable of sustaining life. The other planet is Haatmiess. When
Trygosheans put someone down, they say they’re like a Haatmiess, which is
considered a major insult. My full name is Fabrintazo, Taz for short. I’m about
5'11" in your earth measuresments, and I have a wiry, muscular build. My
hair is a mixture of red and orange and brown and it’s long and luxurious, and
reaches below my shoulders.
Reed: That’s very true.
He often twists it into a braid and lets it flow loose over his back. He’s very
acrobatic and he loves heights. Which scared the hell out of me at one point in
the book. Taz has cat green eyes and purrs when he's pleased. *smiles* I make
him purr often.
Taz: Yes, you do.
Reed’s full name is Reed Hatcher and he’s about my height and build. He
has very light brown hair that tends to bleach out in the warmer months and he
has the most beautiful hazel eyes. Oh! And he has this cute little
dimple in his cheek too. The one on his face, not the other one. Though
that’s cute, too.
Reed: *blushes* Babe,
too much information.
Taz: *grins* And he’s a
business owner, too. A very important man in his world. *nods head* And in his business, he has a
back room that sells very special things. I like the back room.
Reed: I actually have a
degree in elementary education, but I never taught. My parents moved to Florida
and I ended up here in New York.
Taz: Thank the stars
you did! *frowns* Should we tell them about Vorlod?
Reed: What’s to tell?
The bastard’s no longer here on Earth and can’t bother you anymore.
Taz: Well, he was the
reason I was here on Earth to begin with.
Reed: We should save
that story, though, don’t you think? Can’t spill all the beans, now can we?
Taz: *glances around
the floor* I don’t think we spilled anything.
Reed: *rolls his eyes*
You’re right, we didn’t. What was I thinking?
Taz: *eyes him
suspiciously* Are you having fun with me?
Reed: Not yet, babe,
but I intend to, I promise you.
Taz: *grins even
broader, stripes appearing on his neck* Then let’s go now and, how did you put
it, avoid the rush hour?
Reed: *tries not to
laugh* Close enough. *fastens their lips together, he rises, Taz clinging to
him, and they make their way from the room. *

meeting the characters from Be My Alien!
Blurb: Reed Hatcher’s life is work, work, work. He owns a successful men’s boutique in New York City, but a love life is out of the question—for many reasons. It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and business is brisk. On an unexpected visit to the Empire State Building, a sexy man literally falls into Reed’s lap. His name is Taz and he’s just been dumped by his date. One look and Reed is hooked. He offers to buy Taz some coffee and they leave together.
Reed is attracted to Taz and takes him home to his apartment. But Reed discovers there’s more to Taz than he realized—especially when Taz’s stripes begin to show. And he has a tail? Turns out Taz is not quite like Reed. In fact, he comes from another planet, far far away, and he’s only on Earth for a vacation.
Reed never believed in aliens before, but he’s facing one now, and dear God, what is he going to do? Just when he decides he loves Taz and together they can handle anything, the alien that dumped Taz decides he wants him back and steals him away.
Can Reed live with the memory of what he almost had, and the love he found and lost? How can he ever face the moonlit skies again?
Excerpt: “Are you okay? Hello?”
Reed dragged his mind away from those sexy green eyes. “Ah, huh? What?”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to fall on top of you like that. You see, it was like this. I was pushed, and you just happened to be there and….” The stranger grinned at Reed. “And down we went.”
Reed shifted under the body lying so contentedly on top of him. Hell’s bells, the guy fit against him perfectly. From the feel of things, they were both close to the same height. Which also meant certain things were… aligned. “Oh yeah, I’m okay. Banged my head a little, but I’m fine.”
The stranger bit his bottom lip, his teeth worrying the tender skin. Reed debated slamming his head against the floor a few more times in the hopes of rattling his brain back to normal as the stranger rolled off him.
“I really am sorry.”
“No harm done.” Reed sat up and looked at the guy once again. Well, not much harm, anyway. His libido just had to pick now to perk up, didn’t it? But damn, this guy was sexy. Reed struggled to his feet and held his hand out to the man still on the floor, looking up at him. The guy took his hand and let Reed pull him up. “Name’s Reed. Are you okay?”
“Hi, Reed!” The guy hopped to his feet in a single, lithe movement, as if it was the most….world. “My name is Taz. Nice to meet you, and yes, I am.”
For a moment there was a flash in the guy’s eyes that belied his statement. “Good, that’s good. Glad to hear it. Well, I guess I’d better be going—”
A forlorn expression crossed Taz’s face and his pretty eyes clouded. “Oh.”
Reed hesitated. There was something about the guy that pulled at him. When was the last time he’d felt that pull? Way too long ago. Taz was cute, sure. But there was this look of hurt. Dammit, Taz just looked so lost. Insane as it was, he wanted to make it all better.

M.A. Church
M.A. Church lives in the southern United
States and spent many years in the elementary education sector. She is married
to her high school sweetheart and they have two children. Her hobbies are
gardening, walking, attending flea markets, watching professional football,
racing, and spending time with her family on the lake.
But her most beloved hobby is reading.
From an early age, she can remember hunting for books at the library. Later
nonhuman and science fiction genres captured her attention and drew her into
the worlds the authors had created. But always at the back of her mind was the
thought that one day, when the kids were older and she had more time, she would
write a book.
By sheer chance she stumbled across a
gay male romance story on the web and was hooked. A new world opened up and she
fell in love. Thus the journey started. When not writing or researching, she
enjoys reading the latest erotic and mainstream romance novels.

Author Bio:
Julie Lynn Hayes was reading at the age of two and writing by the age of
nine and always wanted to be a writer when she grew up. Two marriages, five
children, and more than forty years later, that is still her dream. She blames
her younger daughters for introducing her to yaoi and the world of M/M love, a
world which has captured her imagination and her heart and fueled her writing
in ways she'd never dreamed of before. She especially loves stories of two men
finding true love and happiness in one another's arms and is a great believer
in the happily ever after. She lives in St. Louis with her daughter Sarah and
two cats, loves books and movies, and hopes to be a world traveler some day. She
enjoys crafts, such as crocheting and cross stitch, knitting and needlepoint
and loves to cook. While working a temporary day job, she continues to write
her books and stories and reviews, which she posts in various places on the
internet. Her family thinks she is a bit off, but she doesn't mind. Marching to
the beat of one's own drummer is a good thing, after all.
Her other published works can be found at
Dreamspinner Press, MuseitUp Publishing and No Boundaries Press, and coming
soon with both Extasy Books and Torquere Press. She has also begun to
self-publish and is an editor at MuseitUp.
