Everyone on the bus was yelling at me in Italian and talking with their hands. I looked down, and those little fingers were at work. He looked up at me, and shrugged and the young girl holding the baby also shrugged. Typical picture people say. They got off as soon as the bus came to a stop. It was a learning lesson for lucky me. They have their own culture, as though they lived in a different world. Thanks for visiting Juliet.Gail Ingishttp://www.gailingis.com/wordpressnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4087819597135667611.post-26961586785061892202012-04-19T01:32:52.604-07:002012-04-19T01:32:52.604-07:00Hello, Juliet,
Have you ever seen the movie "...Hello, Juliet,

Have you ever seen the movie "Latcho Drom", by Tony Gatlif. An amazing film about the trials and travels of the Gypsy people. I worry that sometimes people romanticize the Roma, who have been persecuted everywhere they've gone.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107376/

They do make excellent romance characters, though... ;^)

~ Lisabet

http://www.lisabetsarai.comLisabet Saraihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05162514190572269660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4087819597135667611.post-69825610763633295012012-04-18T15:01:55.301-07:002012-04-18T15:01:55.301-07:00Thanks Jane and Susannah for stopping by. I'm a huge fan of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding -- even though it saddens me to see how women are treated and expected to behave, still I can't not watch the show. Marian and/or Juliet -- do you read the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear? One of the books, An Incomplete Revenge, deals with Roma culture in the post WWI - pre WWII era. Your stories look terrific, Juliet. I will put them on my TBR list.Susannah Hardynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4087819597135667611.post-72742399500426031112012-04-18T08:11:16.228-07:002012-04-18T08:11:16.228-07:00Hi Marian, Hi Juliet!
